OUR WORK
Emergency Relief
Meeting immediate needs in times of crisis…
As we maintain very close relationships with our TCI Team and Ugandan community leaders, emergency needs are quickly brought to our attention. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we learned of the immediate need for food and medical care, and were able to respond quickly.
In July 2022, our team in Uganda learned of the devastating effects of drought and famine and the immediate need for food and medical care in the Karamoja region of northeastern Uganda. They were able to go there, assess the situation and identify a group of about 5,000 people who needed immediate help. With no crops for two years, they were severely malnourished. In desperation they were eating rats and leaves of the thorn trees and death was a daily occurrence. Since then, the TCI-Uganda team has brought regular truckloads of food supplies to this group and we have only had one famine related death since. Trusting relationships have developed and currently, wherever there are functional wells, out team is introducing sustainable agricultural practices (FAITH gardens), providing watering cans and seeds. There is great enthusiasm, cooperation and HOPE which has not been seen before in this area. We are currently exploring different avenues to provide solar wells which would not require hand-pumping and would greatly expand the vegetable gardening and potentially make it profitable.
The rains have still not been sufficient to support any crops so we continue with food relief and medical assessments. PLEASE SUPPORT US - LIVES ARE BEING SAVED WHILE THEY ARE EAGERLY WAITING FOR RAIN.
